American Bulldog Coffee Roasters, Chestnut Ridge
What Makes It "Strong": Owners Gadi Gilan and Maleigha Liburdi , who say they are passionate about creating old-world charm, also pride themselves on preserving integrity and quality. In 2011, they founded Bowery Coffee in New York City, roasting their own 100 percent Arabica beans and selling java by the side of the road. They eventually opened American Bulldog Coffee Roasters in Chestnut Ridge and another spot in Ridgewood, N.J.
They carry a line of organic baked goodies made with seasonal ingredients such as sweet summer corn, fresh basil and cheddar scones and quinoa pumpkin dark chocolate chip (vegan, gluten-free) muffins. Their milk comes from a small co-op dairy farm in Orange County (Soy and almond milk is also available). They bake fresh daily but do fly in their flakey and delicious croissants from France.
